Instructions: How to paint an Arch Wall

Although it looks complicated at first glance, painting an even and beautiful round arch is quite simple.
As with any painting project, preparation is important and we explain exactly how to go about it.

What you need:
  • string/stringpins
  • or hammer and nailpencillevelpainting tape

Step 1: Prepare the round arch

Determine the place on the wall where the round arch is to be placed. Determine the height and width of the arch. Place the nail halfway across the arch. Tie the pencil to the string and cut it to half the width of the arch. Then tie it to the nail.

Step 2: Pre-draw and tape the round arch

Now draw the curve on the wall using string, a nail and a pencil. Use the spirit level to draw straight, vertical lines towards the floor. Then tape them down well.

Pro tip

If you still have some of the original wall paint, coat the inner sides of the tape with it. This will give you razor-sharp edges.

Step 3: Draw border

Using the fine brush, carefully paint the outline of the round arch, always along the pencil line.

Step 4: Fill in

Now paint the inside surfaces and fill the entire round arch with paint.
Remove the tape when the paint is still wet.
If you want to embellish your archway in the hallway, simply trace the archway with the help of a piece of string
Drive a nail at the highest point of your archway, attach one end of a piece of string to a pencil and the other end to the nail and follow the curve with the pencil.

Tips for drawing an exact arc on the wall

You can make an exact arc with the help of string and a pencil. Hold the string tightly so that the circle is even.
You can also use a large compass to create a nice outline.
Use a spirit level to draw a vertical line from the arc to the ground
