Technical information
1. Application of To Stain indoors
As the substrate has a significant influence on the final result of a staining coat, we always recommend a test coat. In the case of tropical woods, slight discolouration of the paint may occur in some cases.
To Paint from:
- untreated, raw wood
- Wood panelling
- Furniture made from untreated wood
- sanded wood
Application:
- Flat brush, roller brushing or spraying also possible, but then finish with a flat brush in the direction of the grain.
- Set to be workable, dilute first coat max. 5% with water.
- Clean tools with soap and water.
- Application temperature min. 5 °C. Coverage approx. 12 - 14 m² per litre with one coat.
- Consumption depends heavily on the substrate. Several coats can be applied depending on the desired effect.
Application recommendations:
- Preparation: Clean the substrate thoroughly. Wax layers, silicone-containing contamination, grease layers and resin galls must be thoroughly removed. As the stain is absorbed differently depending on the structure of the wood, it is important that the wood is evenly sanded. Stir To Stain very well.
- Priming: For highly absorbent wood, apply a diluted coat (addition of 5% water) of To Stain. If fibres build up, intermediate sanding may be necessary.
- Coating: After 4 hours drying time, apply the stain with a flat brush in the direction of the grain. If a stronger colouring is desired, repeat the application after a further 4 hours.
- topcoat: A transparent topcoat with To Seal is possible for heavy-duty use. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours before topcoating.
2. Application of To Stain outdoors
To Stain is not a wood preservative that prevents fungal attack or moisture damage. The wooden element must already be suitable for outdoor use in advance through constructive wood protection or impregnation.
To Paint from:
- untreated wood
- Screen wood, fences
- Furniture made of untreated wood
- sanded wood
- horizontal surfaces (only protected from the weather)
