Varnish: Brown, but not boring
After brown had a real heyday in the 70s in combination with olive green and orange and was an integral part of any interior design, the colour has tended to be a "distant memory" on the colour market in recent years. But now brown colours are making a comeback. Here you can find out how to combine chocolate tones in a modern way and create a high feel-good factor.

Brown paint colour for various projects
Shades of brown range from light beige to darkest dark chocolate. If brown coloured paint is combined harmoniously, it creates a cosy and harmonious atmosphere in our homes. As a general rule, when using brown tones, the combination with other colours plays a special role. In this way, you can avoid creating an overall impression that is too plain.
Combinations with shades oforange or red are reminiscent of the 70s. Brown combined with a fresh shade of petrol or turquoise looks great. Dusky pink also harmonises wonderfully with shades of brown. Warm brown tones such as chocolate brown go particularly well with colour shades reminiscent of cinnamon and toffee. Cool grey tones are also an interesting addition to brown varnishes. Brown wall paints can also be combined well with varnishes.
Furniture and other wooden surfaces: using brown varnish
Brown coloured lacquer is often used on wooden furniture. Modern furniture with simple shapes in particular is made more cosy with a brown furniture varnish. If, on the other hand, you like a vintage style in your interior, you can also embellish a pretty old piece of furniture with wood varnish in brown tones such as MissPompadour Brown with Nougat.
Combine your furniture in chocolate brown or light brown with fresh wall paints to achieve great results. For vintage paints, we recommend favouring a matt paint quality. You can achieve authentic results with Matt Varnish.
If your wood has severe discolouration or knotholes, or if the wood could bleed, prime with MissPompadour To Bond & Block. This primer prevents tannins from escaping from the wood and creates an even surface.
Wooden stairs are also often painted brown or grey. The combination of the two colours results in the MissPompadour Paint Grey with Brown. A darker mix is Grey with Peat. Regardless of whether you opt for one of these colours or another shade of brown on your staircase: The important thing here is to apply a topcoat at the end. MissPompadour To Seal provides additional protection for stairs that are subject to a lot of wear and tear.
Paint metal with brown varnish
Metal can also be easily treated with brown colour shades. For example, you can paint a metal radiator in the same colour shade as the wall behind it. This way, you can make the radiator completely inconspicuous.
Metal furniture and utensils can also be painted well. For metal surfaces, you should first pre-treat the surfaces to be painted with MissPompadour Primer To Bond & Block. The primer ensures good adhesion of the coloured paint. If the metal is rusty, sand it well as a first step and apply a rust protection primer. This is followed by To Bond & Block.
Brown varnish: matt to semi-gloss on plastic
You can also embellish furniture with plastic veneer with brown coloured lacquer. The varnishes from MissPompadour even adhere to high-gloss rigid PVC surfaces, such as those found in some kitchens. So if you've had enough of your brightly coloured high-gloss kitchen cabinets, you can simply paint them.
It is important to pre-treat such smooth surfaces with a primer first. In the MissPompadour range, you will find To Bond & Block, which gives your coloured paint perfect adhesion.
Paint tiles, stone and concrete with brown varnish
Our Eggshell Varnish can also be used on tiles, stone and concrete. Prime smooth surfaces such as tiles first with To Bond & Block. How about transforming a boring tiled stove with coloured varnish in a light brown shade? Even a bathroom can be transformed into an oasis of well-being with warm brown tones.
A stone staircase can be given a whole new look by painting it in brown tones. If you work with a mixture of light and dark colours from the brown colour range, you will achieve great results. The darker chocolate brown is used on the steps and the handle, while a lighter varnish decorates the risers and the banister.
Brown tile paint can completely transform your bathroom and other rooms. Floor tiles, floors and stairs that are used every day should be additionally sealed after painting. MissPompadour To Seal creates an additional protective layer that makes these surfaces last even longer.
Brown: varnishes for outdoor use
Coloured paint in shades of brown can not only be used indoors, but also outdoors. Only brown coloured lacquer in a semi-gloss finish, i.e. the Eggshell Varnish variant, is suitable for outdoor use. A garden fence or garden shed will look very attractive in a dark chocolate brown such as MissPompadour Brown with Dark Chocolate.
The front door or window shutters can also look great in chocolate brown. Perhaps combine the dark chocolate brown paint on the front door or garden shed with a fresh white, or paint the garage door or shutters an elegant light brown or a rich chocolate brown. Brown paint can make a positive difference to the exterior of a house.
