Sustainable and individual upcycling with furniture paint grey
At a time when we are all learning to use the earth's resources more sparingly, the idea of upgrading and reusing a piece of furniture is more important than ever. Not only is old furniture often much more carefully crafted than new, industrially manufactured pieces, it also makes sense and saves money to bring it into the modern age by giving it a completely new look. And you can achieve this new look very easily - with a little creativity, a chic furniture paint, a brush and a paint roller.
These varnishes and chalk paints are suitable for painting furniture grey
MissPompadour offers a whole range of paint qualities that are suitable for upcycling furniture. This not only applies to wooden furniture, but also furniture with a plastic veneer or made of metal can be treated with varnishes from MissPompadour. And of course, MissPompadour offers a huge selection of varnishes in a wide variety of grey tones, from light, soft pastel grey such as Grey with Warmth to the depth of colour of dark Black with Slate, from warm grey tones such as Grey with Brown to cool, fresh colours such as Calm Grey from the CosyColours Collection.
Eggshell Varnish: Ideal varnish for heavy-duty surfaces
This water-based varnish provides an extremely hard-wearing surface with a silky matt finish. Eggshell Varnish is low-odour, impact-resistant and washable. Thanks to its smooth surface, this grey furniture varnish is particularly suitable for chairs, tables and all surfaces that are subject to wear and tear. It is also particularly suitable for furniture in the kitchen. As this varnish is weatherproof, it is also suitable for outdoor use. Eggshell Varnish is available in more than 90 colours from the MissPompadour Paint colour scheme, including many interesting shades of grey.
Matt Varnish: matt varnishes for a sophisticated look
If you want to transform pieces of furniture into elegant furnishings, choose the second MissPompadour Matt V arnish variant from the Just paint colour scheme. With this varnish, you can achieve a powdery, velvety surface that perfectly accentuates all colours and radiates an inimitable, sophisticated elegance. A coat of Matt Varnish is particularly suitable for interior furniture whose surfaces are not subject to too much wear and tear, such as cupboards or chests of drawers. Matt Varnish is also available in all colours in the MissPompadour Paints collection.
All of these paint colours are also available as grey wall paints. This allows you to design your room tone-on-tone and make a large, solid cupboard stand out, for example. The colour shades are also perfectly coordinated with MissPompadour's gorgeous non-woven wallpaper collection. As you can see, there are no limits to your creativity.
Chalk paint for furniture: grey in all shades
The chalk varnishes in the CosyColours collection are particularly suitable for grey tones on indoor furniture. This is because the chalk particles lie gently on the wooden surfaces of your furniture and create the slightly misty, soft character that characterises chalk paints. CosyColours chalk paint is recommended for a sophisticated country house style. The colours have a slightly rustic character. If you prefer a vintage look, you should also finish your furniture with chalk paint. Use chalk varnishes in different shades of grey and give your chest of drawers or cabinet a shabby chic look. To do this, sand out the edges and corners after painting. You may want to emphasise these areas with our antique Wax-Polish at the end to achieve a vintage finish. The use of grey chalk paint is also well suited to industrial chic furniture. The slightly rough surface that the grey colour shade achieves with the chalk paint on wood or metal is perfect for a real vintage look.
At MissPompadour, you will also find two delightful shades of grey in the LittlePomp children's collection. These even saliva-resistant chalk varnishes have been created with children's psychology in mind. If you want to opt for calm, neutral colour shades in the nursery and leave the colourfulness in the room to the toys, you could paint the changing unit and cot in a friendly grey colour shade. LittlePomp's chalk paint is also available as a wall paint, allowing you to create tone-on-tone designs for furniture and walls. You can also use the MissPompadour Stencils with children's motifs to create great accents.
Varnish and chalk paint grey: painting furniture - how it works
It doesn't work without pre-treatment. Before you start painting your furniture, you should clean it thoroughly. All dirt and dust must be thoroughly removed before the grey furniture paint can be applied. The best way to do this is to use the mild but very effective MissPompadour To Cleaner. If your furniture has already been treated with Wax, the surface must be sanded well.
If your furniture has stains, could bleed or if the wood is very coarse and therefore absorbent, you should prepare it with a primer. Pre-treatment with MissPompadour To Bond & Block creates a perfect base for your furniture lacquer. We also recommend this primer if you want to paint very smooth surfaces such as plastic veneer or even glass. It ensures that your furniture paint in grey holds securely even on high-gloss surfaces. If you are painting pine wood in a light colour, it can also be helpful to use a primer. To Bond & Block covers all annoying knotholes.
Once the primer has dried, paint your furniture grey. Always give your furniture a second coat of colour. This will make the grey furniture lacquer stand out particularly well and give it its full resilience.
Ideas & tips for furniture paint in grey
Grey comes in many shades. Maybe you use a very light grey like Silence Grey for your Scandi style furnishings, or maybe you prefer a warm-grey like Grey with Morning Dew.
For furniture that needs to be particularly hard-wearing, you should treat the colour on the wood or metal with an additional topcoat. Use MissPompadour To Seal to finish the painted surfaces. You can also use colourless wax to give particularly matt varnishes and chalk paints a more resistant finish. Wax preserves the matt look of the surfaces. And this is particularly desirable in a shabby chic ambience.
Change of style: painting pine furniture grey
Pine furniture was all the rage in the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately, the often high-quality furniture no longer really appeals: the wood is too yellowed and the many knotholes are no longer visible. You can create a whole new ambience here with grey furniture paint. Use furniture lacquer for the large surfaces, for example a warm grey such as Silk Grey from the CosyColours Collection, and then add accents with the dark anthracite of Secret Grey. After painting with furniture lacquer grey & matt, you will hardly recognise your piece of furniture! Remember that you should prepare pine wood with our To Bond & Block primer to cover the knotholes.
Grey furniture - which wall paints go best?
The beauty of grey furniture is that it goes with many colours. If you have an intense accent wall in mind, paint your furniture in a shade of grey that contains pigments from the wall paint - MissPompadour Grey with Green, for example, harmonises perfectly with shades of green. If you paint your walls in a neutral colour shade such as white or a very light grey, the furniture can make a grand entrance with a rich, sophisticated grey shade such as Quiet Moments Grey. This colour shade from the CosyColours collection has a slight purple shimmer.
Buy matt to semi-gloss grey furniture paint from MissPompadour
There is a wide range of attractive grey shades among the high-quality, easy-to-apply varnishes from MissPompadour: for example, there is the delicate, light Grey with Seasalt and the warm, also light Grey with Linen. Grey with Grey and Grey with Concrete are more neutral and of medium colour intensity. And the dark, earthy Grey with Peat is really intense.
In the LittlePomp Collection you will find 2 shades of grey suitable for children: the light, friendly Grey & Relaxed and the more intense Grey & Mindful. In the CosyColours chalk paints you will find beautiful shades of grey that you can use to conjure up a cosy home: The misty grey of Rainy Days Grey, for example, is very delicate . Comfort Grey is a really dark grey .
It's best to order colour-cards so you can compare the shades at home in any light. And when you order your furniture colour, remember to order your tools such as brushes, paint rollers and paint trays at the same time. This will save you shipping costs or a trip to the DIY store. Yellow is also an excellent match for neutral and dark grey tones. Shades of red and grey furniture paint form a classic combination.
