Sustainable and individual upcycling with brown furniture paint
Upcycling an old piece of furniture can be very useful. Did you buy your piece at a flea market and spontaneously fall in love with it? Is it a family heirloom that you can't bear to part with? Perhaps a cupboard or chest of drawers is so practical that you wouldn't know where else to put its contents. But it's not just old pieces of furniture that can be transformed with a new look using furniture paint. A boring piece of furniture "off the peg", for example from the great Swedes, which stands around in hundreds of thousands of households worldwide, can be turned into an individual piece of jewellery with new colours that only exists once - in your home.
In any case, beautifying furniture with furniture paint is sustainable. This is because nothing is thrown away and replaced with something new, but something that already exists is given a new use through visual transformation. And it's not only good for the environment, but also for your wallet.
Paint furniture brown: These paint qualities are suitable
At MissPompadour, you can find different types of paint for painting wooden, metal or plastic furniture brown. They differ in the gloss level of their surfaces. There are brown furniture paints that are more suitable for indoor use and other furniture paints that are also suitable for outdoor use, for example on garden furniture. Some furniture paints are chalk-based. At MissPompadour, all brown varnishes have in common that they are low-odour, environmentally friendly, easy to apply and provide good coverage.
Eggshell varnish: The ideal varnish quality for heavily used surfaces
The MissPompadour Eggshell Varnish furniture paint is particularly resistant. With this furniture paint, you can achieve a silky matt, extremely easy-care surface. Eggshell Varnish is available in over 90 different colour shades from the Just paint Collection, including many interesting brown tones. This varnish is not only easy to clean, pressure and impact resistant, but also weatherproof. It is therefore suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Matt Varnish: The matt varnish quality for the vintage look
MissPompadour Matt Varnish is a high-quality furniture varnish with which you can achieve completely matt surfaces that look particularly sophisticated and elegant thanks to their velvety, powdery appearance. Matt Varnish is also available in over 90 colour shades from the Just paint Collection. This furniture paint is suitable for interiors. All brown paint colours from Eggshell Varnish and Matt Varnish are also available as brown wall paints, so that interesting combinations are possible.
Paint furniture in the colour brown with chalk paint
You can also find beautiful chalk-based paints at MissPompadour Paint. The CosyColours chalk paints offer a warm, pastel colour scheme. The more than 30 soft colour shades are particularly suitable for creating a classic country house style or a nostalgic vintage ambience. All surfaces treated with these colours are given a matt finish and a slightly rustic character. If you are looking for a grey with a strong hint of brown, you are well advised to use the CosyColours Warm Grey colour shade. In the LittlePomp Collection you will find colour shades that you can combine well with brown.
Use brown furniture colour correctly
Before applying brown furniture paint, it is important to start by cleaning your workpiece. All dirt and dust must be removed before painting. The best way to do this is to use the mild but extremely effective MissPompadour To Cleaner.
Now take a close look at the surface you want to paint. If the wood has been waxed in the past, sand off the wax. If your wood has intense stains, as is often the case with old furniture, but also with pine furniture, you should prime it with our To Bond & Blockprimer. This will give you an even finish with your coat of paint.
Old oak wood can often bleed even after years. Also check carefully whether your workpiece is stained, as the stain can dissolve through the water-based paint and change your colour. In all these cases, we recommend MissPompadour To Bond & Block. This primer forms a secure barrier between the wood and your brown furniture paint on all surfaces. You should also pre-treat very smooth surfaces made of metal or plastic veneer so that the paint colour adheres securely to the smooth surface. Intact old paintwork, on the other hand, can simply be painted over. However, if the old paint flakes off, you must first sand it.
Once the primer has dried, apply 2 coats of brown furniture lacquer. If you love vintage-style furniture, use matt varnishes such as Matt Varnish or CosyColours. Finish with a colourless Wax to give the surface additional protection. If you want to make a piece of furniture that is subject to heavy wear even more impact-resistant, stabilise it with MissPompadour To Seal. Your painting result will remain matt despite the application of the topcoat.
Designing vintage furniture: Brown colour for a look like in the old days
You can create an authentic vintage look very well with shades of brown. A very dark brown such as MissPompadour Brown with Black is particularly suitable for this. Then accentuate the mouldings and edges with gold leaf or lacquer paint in a gold tone, as used in barrel painting. Matt colour shades are particularly suitable for shabby chic furniture design.
Eclectic: brown furniture lacquer as a calming element in colourful interiors
If you prefer a bright, colourful interior, it can be important to design one or two pieces of furniture in a neutral colour shade. Brown furniture paint in a medium colour intensity such as Brown with Nougat is a good choice, as these colour shades stay in the background and give way to vibrant, bright colours such as pink or orange. In this way, the effect of intense colours is not disturbed.
Classic rustic: furniture design in dark brown
Brown furniture colours are also a must in a classic country house look. This is because all tones that come directly from nature make good combination colours for green and light beige tones. Brown furniture paint also goes well with rusty-warm red tones - all colours that are used in the country house style. A slightly rustic surface, as you can achieve with chalk paint, goes particularly well with the country house style.
