Sustainable and individual upcycling with blue furniture paint
In any case, it is sustainable and environmentally friendly to paint existing furniture with a new colour instead of disposing of it and buying new furniture. Old pieces of furniture in particular are often more elaborately crafted than new industrially produced furniture. Take advantage of the careful workmanship of old craftsmen and give your old treasures a new, fresh look with furniture paint. But you can also give newer "off-the-peg" furniture, some of which can be found identical in thousands of households around the world, its very own individual character by upcycling it with blue furniture paint.
Paint a single piece of furniture in a bright blue colour like Blue with Violet. You'll make it an eye-catcher in any room. However, if you finish pieces of furniture of a certain size, such as a bedroom wardrobe, in a soft shade of blue like Dawn Blue, you can bring calm and cosiness into a room. However, light blue tones can also look fresh and lively if you use them on your kitchen furniture, for example. As you can see, there are no limits to your creativity when it comes to painting furniture blue.
Paint furniture blue: These varnishes are suitable
At MissPompadour, you can find blue varnishes in different qualities and many different shades of blue. Depending on the surface on which the blue furniture paint is to be applied, whether your paint needs to be weatherproof on wooden or metal garden furniture or will be exposed to greater loads in the children's room or on a dining table, it makes sense to choose the right furniture paint product before selecting the colour.
Eggshell Varnish: Ideal varnish for heavily used surfaces
The Eggshell Varnish furniture paint from the Just paint Collection is a real all-rounder. You can use this weatherproof blue furniture paint indoors and outdoors. Eggshell Varnish gives you a silky matt, extremely hard-wearing surface that is also very easy to clean. Eggshell Varnish is available in more than 90 colour shades, including many attractive shades of blue. All colour shades are also available as identical blue wall paints.
Matt Varnish: Matt varnish for the vintage look
A coat of the second paint quality in the Just paint Collection, Matt Varnish, creates a completely matt look. Its effect is velvety and powdery. It is similar in texture to the MissPompadour wall paint The Valuable Wall Paint, making it particularly suitable for painting radiators with blue varnish tone-on-tone with the blue wall paint. Matt furniture paint is also ideal for creating an authentic vintage look. This is because in earlier times, matt colours were predominantly used. Matt Varnish is also available in over 90 shades from the MissPompadour #justpaint collection. Incidentally, both paint qualities are perfectly colour-coordinated with the MissPompadour non-woven wallpapers.
Chalk paint: painting furniture with blue paint
The soft colour nuances of our two chalk paints CosyColours and LittlePomp look particularly charming in blue tones. Chalk varnishes are particularly suitable for finishing furniture in a vintage style - the dull surfaces created by the chalk components are reminiscent of old times. Soft blue tones, such as Blue & Noble, can be found among the child-friendly colours from LittlePomp and beautiful, cosy, even downright warm colour shades in blue, such as Cloudy Blue or Stormy Sky Blue, can be found among the CosyColours chalk paints.
Using blue furniture paint correctly
If you want to beautify your rooms by painting some furniture blue, a few tips and tricks can help you achieve a perfect result. First of all, you need an almost indispensable product: MissPompadour To Clean. This mild but extremely effective cleaner removes all dirt and dust from your painted object. If the piece of furniture has been treated with wax in the past, sand off the layer.
To apply furniture lacquer blue to furniture with plastic veneer and other smooth surfaces, you will need a primer coat. A primer is also required for materials such as metal or a substrate made of raw or bleeding wood. The same applies to stained furniture - the stain can destroy your paint. In these cases, therefore, prepare with MissPompadour To Bond & Block. This will create an even surface and the blue colour will adhere perfectly.
If your workpiece is painted, you can simply paint over intact old paint. However, if the old varnish is damaged or peeling, you will need to sand before you can apply your blue paint.
After the primer has dried, the blue varnish is applied in 2 coats. Even if the first coat already covers well, you should paint twice, as this is when the individual colours really come into their own and the paint develops its full durability.
If you expect the blue-painted surfaces to be very hard-wearing later on, it makes sense to finish your coat with a topcoat. Then use MissPompadour To Seal. You can also stabilise the surfaces of chalk paints with a colourless wax such as CosyColours Furniture Wax Clear.
Bathroom: combine blue furniture
Aquatones such as Dark Blue with Green are ideal for the bathroom. This is the name given to colour shades in which blue colour shades are given a green or turquoise tint by adding yellow. These aqua shades are particularly suitable for bathrooms or wellness rooms, as they have a gentle yet fresh effect.
All blue colours that contain red tend slightly towards violet and have a warm appearance. Blue colours with grey components such as Twilight Blue, on the other hand, have a gentle and calming effect. For bathrooms without daylight, you should choose a light, rather pastel blue colour. Blue with Snow, a very light shade of blue, also looks great in combination with the dark blue of Blue with Midnight.
Furniture colour blue in the children's room
MissPompadour has designed the LittlePomp chalk paints especially for children's rooms. These colours were developed by child psychologists. Like all MissPompadour Paints, they are completely harmless to health, so that even pregnant women can work with them without any problems. Among the Little Pomp chalk paints you will find the two enchanting blue shades Blue & Calm and Blue & Noble, which not only appeal to children and their parents. As these blue furniture paints are saliva-resistant, you can also use them to paint toys. For example, the toy shop that you have already played with can be given a new lease of life and passed on to the next generation. All LittlePomp colour shades are also available as wall paints.
Blue furniture as an accent in the living room
If you have designed your living room with lots of natural tones such as brown, beige and natural wood, accents from the blue colour scheme can bring freshness and life to your room. Colour shades in blue are particularly suitable if you want to create a maritime ambience. Perhaps paint a display cabinet for your holiday memories in a beautiful sky blue like Blue with Cloud. Combine your blue-painted furniture with the beautiful sand tone of Beige with Sand. The result is a play of colours that will conjure up a holiday mood in your home all year round.
Order furniture colour in blue from MissPompadour
You will find many interesting shades of blue in the MissPompadour varnishes collection: the light Blue with Fog and Blue with Grey are impressive with their soft grey tones. Blue with Grey also contains some red pigments. The beautiful indigo shade Blue with Jeans is stronger with slight green tones and the rich Blue with Night is darker. Blue with Black and Blue with Ink are completely dark.
With the chalk paints from LittlePomp, you have the choice between the soft, delicate Blue & Calm and the slightly more intense, calming Blue & Noble. And the warm CosyColours chalk paints palette offers a beautiful light shade of blue with Dawn Blue, for example. The warm Cloudy Blue is darker and the cosy blue tone of Stormy Sky Blue is even more intense.
It's best to order colour-cards so that you can compare the shades at home. Once you have chosen your paint quality and colour shade, you should order your tools at the same time. This will save you the cost of additional shipping and possibly a trip to the DIY store. If you're not sure what you need, you can find a customisable shopping list in our furniture painting project kit.
