Designing a home office: Ideas from our community
Our MissPompadour community was once again very creative and experimented with colour shades and colour accents. Get ideas and inspiration from the community's pictures and their interpretation of "designing a home office workspace"!
What do you want to paint? - The right colour & paint quantity for your workplace
Not everyone has a room of their own that they can design and furnish as an office. However, a corner, a desk, a wall shelf and a comfortable office chair are often enough to turn it into an attractive workplace. A distinctly coloured wall and painting the desk can go a long way towards turning this corner into a real workspace where you feel comfortable and can work productively.
All our wall paints are perfect for repainting your office walls:
- MissPompadour - The Functional Wall Paint is a very stable, washable wall paint that offers many advantages thanks to its matt finish and bold colour shades.
- MissPompadour - The Valuable Wall Paint is our preservative-free wallpaint that is low-odour, sustainable and yet provides excellent coverage.
The decisive factor for the paint quantity is, of course, whether you want to paint an entire room or just one wall to set it off from its surroundings. You can always find our practical Paint Calculator in our shop right next to the respective colour shade. It calculates how much paint you need for how many square metres. To achieve a nice depth of colour, you should calculate the paint quantity for 2 coats.
Colours for the home office: these colours promote productivity and concentration
In fact, it has been scientifically proven that colours influence our psyche. For a workplace, calm, neutral colour shades are recommended, which promote concentration and bring freshness into the working environment.
Here are some examples of colour shades that are particularly harmonious and thus create a productive working environment:
- MissPompadour White with Ginger - The Valuable Wall Paint gives small and slightly darker rooms a fresh, sparkling touch thanks to the light yellow pigments.
- MissPompadour Grey with Seasalt - The Functional Wall Paint convinces with a light grey tone with a slight umber component that radiates warmth. The colour is very hard-wearing and can also be combined well with other colour shades.
- MissPompadour Beige with Sand - The Valuable Wall Paint is a light, friendly beige and exudes a little beach atmosphere. It lends the office a certain lightness and carefreeness. In addition, the colour shade is also available in the quality "The Functional Wall Paint", which is particularly hard-wearing.
Matching colours for the walls of the study
If you want to paint just one wall in the office to make your corner stand out, or to add a touch of colour to your study, make sure the colour shade matches the rest of the wall paint in the room and your décor, but still stands out.
For video conferences, make sure that the area at your back is neutral. It is visible in the webcam and should not be distracting.
Professional tip: If your room is already small and there is also a bookshelf on the wall, you can make your office look larger by painting the shelf tone-in-tone with the wall. The best way to do this is with MissPompadour Matt Varnish, as it develops a surface look similar to that of wall paint.
Give your desk a fresh coat of paint
If you're currently painting the walls, you could also give your desk a fresh coat of paint. It doesn't matter whether it's made of wood - solid wood or veneered - metal or plastic, because our colours adhere to any surface. When choosing the paint, opt for a robust, hard-wearing varnish in a colour that stands out from the wall but also harmonises with it.
- We particularly recommend MissPompadour Eggshell Varnish, which covers very well and creates an easy-to-clean surface.
Please note that colours have difficulty adhering to smooth surfaces, such as plastic veneer, without pre-treatment. Therefore, use our To Bond & Block - MissPompadour Primer as preparation. It creates the perfect base for all our colours.
Must-haves for your study
Have you always wanted a good old pinboard for your study, but just don't like the big metal boards? We have a tip for you that will conjure up a magnetic board on your wall that you can't even see. To do this, use our MissPompadour Magnet Paint and paint the exact area where you want your magnets to stick. Once the magnet paint is dry, paint over it with the wall paint. This gives you a practical pinboard that doesn't disrupt the overall impression of the room and for which you didn't have to drill a single hole.
You shouldn't make any compromises when it comes to sitting. After all, it's about your health. Ergonomically shaped office chairs take the strain off your back and offer a comfortable sitting position.
Whether you have your own office or a workstation in the living room, office furnishings also include lighting. Ideally, your home office should receive daylight, but lighting is also important on dark days. We recommend a neutral light colour in the office, such as daylight white. This light helps you to concentrate and stay alert, but still feels pleasant.
FAQ: Frequently asked questions on the subject of painting a home office
We have compiled the most frequently asked questions on the topic of home office and office design for you here:
Which colour is suitable for a small study?
To make a small room look bigger, use light colours that contain fresh and delicate pigments. To do this, browse the wide range of all our chalk and wall paints in white tones.
What colours should I avoid in the study?
You should not use bright and dark colours in your study. Although red stands for energy and power, an intense red can also be perceived as aggressive. Strong contrasts can certainly appear competent, but if you want to be on the safe side and convey a serious impression, neutral colours, harmonious transitions and little irritation are advantageous - especially in the background, which is visible during video conferences.

Material and Accessories for Painting the Home Office
For painting walls, wall elements or even a piece of furniture, we recommend our painting tools:
- plastic drop clothand adhesive tape: Our plastic drop cloth is suitable for protecting those areas that are not to be painted and are to be protected from unwanted paint splashes. To Mask areas that are not to be painted, such as sockets or light switches, our To Mask - MissPompadour Adhesive Tape is available in various sizes.
- Brush and paint roller: Use our fine MissPompadour brush to paint corners and edges. For larger areas, a paint roller is particularly suitable.
- paint tray: In order not to contaminate the paint in the original packaging and thus provoke a reduced durability, you should always use a paint tray.
Professional tip: If you interrupt your work - for example, because a coat of paint has to dry - wrap the brush, paint roller and paint tray airtight in cling film. This way you can keep the accessories fresh for around 24 hours and then continue working without any problems.
