Blue tiles by painting over the old tile colour - is that possible?
Is blue your favourite colour? Then why not choose blue varnish to redesign your bathroom or kitchen? Painting tiles works wonderfully if you keep a few things in mind.
Firstly, the surfaces must be absolutely clean. In the bathroom, all soap and limescale residue, as well as dust and grease, must be removed so that the primer and varnish can adhere. The best way to do this is to use the mild but effective MissPompadour To Clean cleaning agent. Avoid aggressive cleaners with chlorine or strongly alkaline cleaning agents at all costs. These can leave residues in the rough joints and damage your tile coating afterward.
Next, you should take a look at your silicone joints. Paint cannot adhere well to silicone. Fortunately, a new product has been available for some time: MissPompadour To Seal Silicone. Paint over your silicone joints with a thin brush. You can then easily paint over it with the primer or tile paint.
The surfaces must be primed before you use the blue tile paint. To ensure that the blue tile paint can adhere to very smooth surfaces, you should apply a primer coat of To Bond & Block. This primer also increases the high opacity of your tile paint. This is particularly important if your substrate is heavily patterned and you want to work with light blue colour shades.
Use this varnish to paint tiles blue
The Eggshell Varnish quality is a perfect tile varnish. It creates a silky matt, elegant surface that is easy to maintain and is also extremely stable. This tile paint is characterised by high water resistance. Running water does not harm Eggshell Varnish, only standing water should be avoided. You can therefore also use it for the wall tiles in the shower. We recommend additionally reinforcing these surfaces with To Seal. Water resistance is also a prerequisite for a tiled splashback in the kitchen. You can give your kitchen a new, contemporary look with blue colour on the tiles.
Eggshell Varnish adheres to almost all tiles, although there are a few exceptions: Waxed or otherwise impregnated tiles usually cannot be painted, nor can tiles with a lotus effect.
The tile paint is applied twice to the primed substrate. Use a brush for the joints. Paint the rest of the tiles with a Roller. Thanks to the high opacity of the tile paint, supported by the primer, you can easily paint away even eye-catching patterns with your blue tile paint. If you want to make your surface even more hard-wearing and harder, applya final coat of MissPompadour To Seal.
From sea to sky: blue tile colour for your rooms
Blue is an absolute favourite colour for many people. Nature shows us how. Who doesn't like to lose themselves in the vast blue of the sky or get excited about the blue sea? Flowers such as forget-me-nots or violets are the favourite flowers of many. Even in the Romantic period, poets such as Novalis were in search of the blue flower. So why not bring this beautiful colour into your home in the form of varnish for your tiles?

Blue floor tiles in the hallway & utility room
Can tiles on the floor also be embellished with blue tile paint? Will the colours hold? After all, varnish on the floor is used harder than varnish on the wall. Yes, Eggshell Varnish is a product that you can also use to paint the floor in the hallway or utility room. However, we recommend that you stabilise the paint on floor tiles with To Seal at the end.
Incidentally, you can also print a great pattern on floor tiles with the help of MissPompadour stencils. Here you can combine blue tile paint with different colours. You could use Blue with Jeans as the tile paint and set accents with the almost white Blue with Snow.

Blue with Fog and Blue with Grey are also beautiful colour shades between grey and blue. Dark Blue with Green, which tends towards petrol, impresses with a little green pigment. Blue with Violet is a bright shade of blue with a warm touch of violet. Blue with Night is bright and dark. The darkest shades of blue are Blue with Ink and, almost black, the mysterious Blue with Black.
It's best to order a set of colour cards first. That way you can take your time to decide which varnish colours you like for your project. The colour cards are the size of a postcard and can be removed individually. Look at the individual colours in each light and then compare them.
If you then order the varnish, buy the primer, brush and roller at the same time. This saves you a trip to the DIY store and additional shipping costs. Our project kits are customisable shopping aids that guarantee you won't forget anything!
